Castle Sands

The trouble with living in a place for more than two weeks is that you quickly begin to take much of what you see about you for granted. Despite walking past the castle ruins on numerous occasions I had never really taken the time to imagine it as anything more than a simple ruin. To think that this hotchpotch of scraggly rocks was once the scene of many a siege and religious conflagration seems hardly possible, especially when one views the ruin in the reflection of the tranquil waters of the Castle Sands pool. Staring into this reflection it is possible to imagine, at least for a moment, that two halves can make a whole; that the shifting image displayed in the water can restore the broken castle, only to be destroyed again at the drop of a pebble.
